Most buildings in the
recent generations use screen doors instead of glass doors and windows. There
are numerous advantages of using screens as compared to glass on windows and
doors. One major advantage is air circulation. The installation of screens on door
and window frames requires high professionalism and precision. An appropriate
size of foam screening spline has to be used in order to ensure that the screen
does not loosen from its frame with time. There are a few factors one should
consider in order to ensure that the screen is properly installed. It should
also give an appealing look in whichever environment it is installed.
Color is always an
important consideration when it comes to installation of any type of accessory.
The color of screen used should perfectly match with the color of foam screening spline used. For instance, a black screening spline is appropriate
for charcoal aluminum and fiberglass screens. Grey screening splines on the
other hand are appropriate for grey fiberglass and bright aluminum screens.
Generally, there are six major types of screens supplied by most hardware
shops. These are the aluminum, clear advantage, fiberglass, pool and patio, pet
defense and solar screens. Each of these comes in both charcoal and bright
colors hence the choice of screening spline to use depends on the specific
color of screen.
Apart from the screen
and foam screening spline, there are other materials and tools required during
the installation of screen doors and windows. These are the screening tool,
scissors, marking pencil, hacksaw, screen frames, screen frame corners, tension
springs and a utility knife. One may also require heavy-duty masking tape to
hold the screen in place before the screening spline is enforced into the
frame. One can do without some of these materials except that the process will
be more hectic and tedious.
The screen frame is
constructed by joining frame pieces using frame joints. In most cases, the
frame usually has a groove in which the foam screening spline is installed. The
screen is then spread out to cover the entire frame. The screening spline is
enforced into the groove on the frame together with the screen. As the
screening spline is installed, one should ensure that the screen remains
straight throughout the process. The excess material left overhanging after
installation of the screening spline is neatly chopped off using scissors. The
diameter of screening spline used should always be larger than the width of
groove on the frame. This ensures that the screen is held tightly on the frame
over a long period.
