METHODS USED FOR CUSTOM PLASTIC FABRICATION

Custom plastic fabrication is the process by which plastics are molded into different shapes and designs as required by the client. The process may involve molding of plastics while in their liquid form or cutting them in their solid state and assembling them using various methods. By the end of the process, a custom design as specified by the customer is achieved. There are numerous companies that offer plastic fabrication services. They use different technologies during the fabrication process to achieve desired results. A client should therefore enquire about such details before enrolling with a custom fabrication company.
Laser technology is one of the most common methods used in custom plastic fabrication. This method is known for producing intricate designs that would hardly be produced through molding or other fabrication methods. It makes use of laser beams to cut plastics into complex shapes. The cutting process is done with utmost precision. Just like in the metal industry, laser beams heat the plastic surface and melt it along the desired path to produce a cut. The width of cut is usually very thin and for this reason laser technology can be used to cut very sharp edges.
CNC systems are incorporated in the latest custom plastic fabrication machines in order to increase the accuracy of designs produced. The desired custom design is fed into a computer system that is connected to a laser-cutting machine. The laser cutter is controlled by the computer to produce an exact replica of the custom design. Chances of getting errors with this technology are close to zero. Companies have equipped their workshops with CNC machines hence they are able to deal with thousands of different custom designs as required by their clients. The method is also fast and can produce the desired design in a matter of seconds.
There are numerous methods used to bond plastics in custom plastic fabrication. Most people make use of adhesives to bond plastics while a few companies perform plastic welding. Each of the methods has its own advantages and limitations. For instance, plastic welding can form a very strong joint even though it is complex as compared to use of adhesives. On the other hand, adhesives can form very neat bonds and can be used on any type of joint. The type of bonding to use depends on a number of factors. These include strength of bond required, type of design, and availability of materials required for the process.
